James Naughton is a young award-winning artist currently based in Bolton. Since graduating in 1994 with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Art from Leeds Metropolitan University, Jameas's success has brought him several regional and national awards, most notably The Laing Landscape Painting Competition in March 1997. Last year he won The Addleshaw Booth & Co award in the Manchester Academy Open.
James' new body of work continues to explore familiar Lakeland and Pennine landscapes. Developments over the last year have seen an increase in the use of rich colour to imply tone and the economy of intense passages of paint, inviting the viewer to imaginatively read the image. James enjoys the challenge in the process of painting and feels a developing sense of the dramatic potential in the views he depicts in his work.
James's work has been successfully exhibited both in solo and group exhibitions around the country
e.g. The Manchester Academy of Fine Art, The Mall Galleries, London and the 17th Leeds Art Fair at The Corn Exchange, Leeds. |
